The Ukrainian Air Force attacked a Russian cargo ship in the Kherson region.
Apparently the freighter served as a Russian command center.
Kherson – Ukraine says it has successfully attacked a Russian freighter.
As images from the Ukrainian Air Force show, the freighter was massively damaged on Monday (March 11).
The video shows a massive explosion, fire and huge pieces of the ship flying through the air.
The recordings cannot be independently verified.
According to Ukrainian information, the ship “Mechanik Pogodin” has been aground in the mouth of the Dnepr River since June 2023.
The river mouth is located in the Kherson region, which has been largely controlled by Russia since the beginning of the Ukrainian war and has repeatedly been the scene of fighting between Ukraine and Russia.
Kyiv celebrates attack on Russian command center
The freighter is believed to have served as a command center for Russian forces since it ran aground.
According to Ukraine, the ship was used to launch FPV drones and transport electronic warfare (EW) equipment,

Russia has not yet commented on the incident.
Kiev said the ship's use for surveillance and control made the tanker a legitimate military target.
Accordingly, the Ukrainian military celebrated Monday's explosion as a "successful attack."

Ukrainian forces are said to have attacked the Russian freighter.

The mouth of the Dnepr River and the adjacent Kinburn Peninsula are strategically important points.
The peninsula is currently controlled by Russia.
From there, ships arriving and leaving the Ukrainian port of Mykolaiv can be controlled.
