Are older people more likely to reject digital models?

The “common prejudice” obviously does not apply to the catering offerings at the State Opera in Munich.

Munich – “No matter how long the queue is, you no longer have to queue,” promises Feinkost Käfer in its image video.

The traditional company is responsible for the catering at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

Käfer has been working with the developers of the “luca” app since autumn 2023.

Together with the software company SAP, they provide a system that enables digital pre-orders for events.

Gastro experiment in Munich: Digital pre-orders possible at the State Opera

When purchasing tickets, visitors can select food and drinks for the day of the performance and reserve tables.

In one of the bars in the State Opera or for dinner in the Ludwig Zwei restaurant.

“Before the performance or during the break, you can enjoy the dishes you have ordered in peace and quiet in the various dining areas, without wasting the time in long queues or in a rush until the gong goes,” “luca” advertises the offer in a press release.

Payment for food and drinks can also be made digitally.

“We had great respect for the task,” says Patrick Hennig, CEO and co-founder of the “App.

Controlling consumption during breaks in particular is a logistical challenge.

“It is not easy to effectively run a restaurant in the opera.

The breaks are very short.” The first step was to determine the special requirements for the various offers.

“In the restaurant, at the bar, at the bar tables.

Which concept fits where?”

“We cannot detect any prejudice that older audiences are averse to digital services”

Over 5,000 orders have already been processed in the first few months.

The possibility of making digital pre-orders was very well received right from the start, explains Michael Wuerges when asked.

There are no reservations from older visitors, says the spokesman for the Bavarian State Opera: “We cannot at all find the common prejudice that older audiences in particular are averse to digital services.”

“luca” CEO Hennig is pleased about the positive feedback: “It takes cases like this to show that you can save a lot of time with digital models.

When people see the line that they can just walk past, they might change their minds.”

With his “luca” app, Patrick Hennig wants to bundle all the important functions of a restaurant visit on one platform in the future.

From choosing the restaurant, reserving a table and ordering to paying at the end.

Despite advancing digitalization, people should not be left behind, he explains in an interview with our editorial team.
