“Exceptional seizure”
for Annecy customs officers.
Agents from the Saint-Julien internal surveillance brigade seized more than half a ton of cannabis last Thursday during a check carried out at the Swiss border.
A 30-year-old man was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention following his police custody while an investigation continues under the auspices of an investigating judge to determine the origin of the goods.
It was around 8 p.m. that day when a team of customs officers spotted a white van parked at the Valleiry rest area, on the A40 motorway, in Haute-Savoie.
Their attention is also attracted by the presence of an individual already noticed during a previous visit.
The agents then decide to check the thirty-year-old who immediately indicates that he is waiting for a friend, but declares that he does not have a vehicle.
However, a thorough search of his personal effects allowed the agents to discover the key to a Volkswagen vehicle.
The fifteen bales were stored in a van parked at a rest area on the A40 motorway.
