They were saved from euthanasia thanks to capture operations carried out by the Brigitte Bardot Foundation this Wednesday March 13.
Hundreds of Vietnamese-type black pigs have been proliferating and wandering for several years at the entrance to the La Palun industrial zone in Marignane (Bouches-du-Rhône) after escaping from the fenced woods in which they were supposed to live.
By proliferating, undoubtedly from a few pairs kept by individuals, these suids had become such a nuisance that the town hall had 350 of them killed last December, to the great dismay of animal rights associations who denounced a decision “without consultation”.
Since then, the dialogue has resumed and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which had already evacuated around forty pigs on February 21, has just relaunched a capture operation.
The objective is to then shelter the animals in a pension near Salon-de-Provence where, to avoid any overpopulation, the females are separated from the males.
“These animals are neither identified nor vaccinated”
“The goal is to empty the area and install these pigs elsewhere with former partner breeders,” summarizes Christophe Marie, deputy director and spokesperson for the Brigitte Bardot Foundation who visited the site on Wednesday March 13 .
“We work with the town hall and the veterinary services because these animals are neither identified nor vaccinated.

After a quarantine period, these hundreds of pigs will be placed in secure enclosures to avoid visits by wild boars to the female boxes, as sterilization operations are complicated in adult pigs.
