The change of political sign in Jaén depends on 600 million euros.

The provincialist party Jaén Deserves More (JM+), born from the Empty Spain platform, has conditioned its support for a motion of censure by the PSOE for the change in the Jaén mayor's office (now in the hands of the PP) on the Government guaranteeing the City Council the “full” elimination of the municipal debt which, at around 600 million euros, is the highest per capita (Jaén has 111,000 inhabitants) of the Spanish capitals.

As long as that does not happen, the three JM+ councilors will remain as partners of the PP Government in the municipal Executive, although the party will also maintain open dialogue with the PSOE.

“We are entitled to speak with everyone, we do not have any red line, our loyalty is with Jaén,” stressed the president of JM+, Juan Manuel Camacho, in the first public appearance since it became known that his party was negotiating with the socialists a motion of censure against the popular mayor, Agustín González.

Camacho has made it clear that it was the PSOE that knocked on the doors of the provincialist party.

To support his request, the provincial coordinator of JM+, José María Mesbailer, has appealed to the announcement that the vice president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, made at the end of last year for the debt forgiveness of the autonomous communities, an agreement that , as interpreted by JM+, would later be extended to local entities.

By virtue of this, she demands differential treatment towards the Jaén City Council, “which is in the ICU” and “on the brink of intervention,” she said, and which does not have new municipal budgets since the last ones approved in 2017. .

But in addition to the negotiations with the state Administration, in which officials from the federal PSOE act as intermediaries, Jaén Deserves More continues to pressure its current municipal government partner, the PP.

In fact, members of the provincialist formation met on Tuesday in Seville with senior officials from the Junta de Andalucía and the Andalusian PP, to whom they asked to “accelerate the times” and the deadlines for the 101 proposals that were signed in a agreement before a notary at the beginning of the mandate.

“We need specifics and not to be at the mercy of promises,” said Juan Manuel Camacho, who has maintained uncertainty about the final decision adopted by the party: “Nothing is closed and everything is open,” he blurted out, after assume that their indefinite stance is causing them a political cost and a lot of external criticism.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Jaén, Agustín González, said hours before the appearance of his partners in the corporation that the government team “enjoys good health” and was “moderately optimistic” about being able to reach an agreement that will remove any shadow. motion of censure.

However, regardless of what ends up happening with the motion, Jaén Merece Más has already warned that they will be an “uncomfortable” partner in this mandate.

In recent months there have been continuous clashes in the municipal government on urban planning matters and due to the paralysis of the Andalusian Government - governed by the PP - to unblock projects that have been stuck for many years, such as the tram, abandoned in the garages since the year 2011 and after an investment of 120 million euros.

Although members of the party have assured that they do not opt for the right or the left, JM+ chose to support the PP in all the municipalities where they govern (Santiago-Pontones) and in the two where they co-govern (Jaén and Baeza).
