It is reassuring news for the police in the Starnberg district: Crime among teenagers and young adults did not increase significantly in 2022.

But conversely, it hasn't fallen much either.

Andreas Ruch from the Gauting police station recently presented figures and statistics to the district's youth welfare committee.

District -

More or less everything the same, is his message.

Ruch could not and was not allowed to present the figures for the past year 2023 at the meeting. Only when Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann has presented the Bavaria-wide police report can Ruch and his colleagues make the '23 evaluations public.

So first of all, 2022: 4,403 crimes were registered across the district.

2,785 were solved, which corresponds to a clearance rate of 63.3 percent.

“That is the level at which we are operating,” Ruch explained to the committee members.

And it has been for a good ten years.

A quarter of all crimes are committed by young people

Around a quarter of the solved cases are caused by children, young people and adolescents.

This amounts to 595 crimes, committed by 92 children (up to 13 years old), 302 young people (from 14 to 18 years old) and 201 by adolescents (from 18 to 21 years old).

Among those aged 13 and under, shoplifting is the main cause.

By the way, around 70 percent are boys or young men and 30 percent are girls and young women.

What is striking for the police officer is that “we are already catching 12-year-olds smoking weed,” said Ruch, describing his observations as a police officer.

He knows from his school environment and from street workers that it is not particularly difficult to obtain drugs.

Ruch is no less worried about his “very careless” use of the Internet and social media.

Youth unemployment is 7.9 percent

For Petra Callwitz from the employment agency, who presented her report on the employment relationship of young people in the district to the group, middle school students in particular need advice and guidance on the job market.

As of January 1, 2024, the rate in the group of 15 to 25 year olds was 7.9 percent (189 people).
