USER RIGHTS - From April 15, 2024, two-wheelers, three-wheelers and motorized quadricycles will have to pass through approved technical inspection centers to be able to travel on the roads.


The passage to the technical inspection depends on the registration date of the vehicle.

We now know the system put in place.

• If it was put into circulation before January 1, 2017 and the anniversary date of its first put into circulation is before April 15, it will be necessary to carry out a check between April 15 and August 14, 2024;

• If it was registered between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019, the first inspection must be carried out in 2025;

• If it was registered between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021, the first inspection must be carried out in 2026;

• If it was registered after January 1, 2022, the first technical inspection must be carried out 5 years after its entry into circulation.

The validity period of the control is three years.

The inspector will have to check nearly 80 control points: vehicle identification, braking equipment, steering, lights, reflective devices and electrical equipment, axles, wheels, tires, suspension, chassis, horn, nuisance, etc.

Two types of vehicles are exempt from technical inspection: collector's vehicles put into circulation before 1960 and competition motorcycles whose owner has a license from the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM).

The absence of a technical inspection will be punishable by a fine of up to 750 euros (135 euros in the event of a fixed fine) as well as a decision to immobilize the vehicle by the police.
