Istat said Wednesday that 23.58million people were in employment in Italy on average in 2023, an increase of 481,000 people in work (2.1%) with respect to the previous year.
It was the third consecutive year that the number of people unemployment had risen, the national statistics agency said.
Istat said the employment rate rose to 61.5%, up 1.3 percentage points on 2022, while the unemployment rate dropped 0.4 of a point to 7.7%.
The agency said the average number of unemployed people dropped by 81,000 last year, taking it under the two-million threshold to 1,947,000.
