An association from Hadern wants to design an area in the parish of St. Hedwig in Sendling-Westpark.

The district committee sees the plans positively.

Instead of a wasteland, a “green area for young and old”: This is what the Munich-Großhadern Horticultural Association’s plans look like for the space next to the parish of St. Hedwig, as the association’s chairwoman Tanja Sixt explains.

At the moment the area is not very attractive and quite dreary.

She now presented her “Nature Experience Space” project in detail to the Sendling-Westpark District Committee (BA), in whose district the church is located on Markomannenstrasse.

Planted meeting place on 600 square meters

Roughly speaking, it is about an adventure garden designed together by parents and children from the parish and local residents.

The approximately 600 square meter area should become a richly planted meeting place in order to “restore the connection to nature that has been partially lost in the big city,” as Sixt explains.

Specifically, a sweet fruit trellis made of berry bushes and fruit trees, several raised beds, a flower meadow and a wild rose hedge are planned to provide privacy from the adjacent parking lot across Dauthendeystrasse.

The area should be completed this year

Between the plants, elements such as a sunken garden, a pergola and a labyrinth will invite you to linger and meditate.

Watering points for birds and insects are also planned.

The horticultural association sees the nature experience space as a contribution to the “preservation of creation”, especially in times of climate change and factory farming.

The St. Hedwig church administration has already been informed and has approved the plans, says Sixt, and the project was also received positively in the BA.

The nature experience space is scheduled to be completed this year.
