On video: documentation of Moshe Shuval kidnapping the bank employee and blackmailing her to rob the branch/system and voila!
Attorney Yair Goichman from the Haifa Criminal District Attorney's Office, emphasized as part of the arguments for punishment the seriousness of the acts, the great sophistication on their part and the severe harm caused to the complainant who was subjected to a mask of threats and intimidation, and felt a real danger to her life. The attorney's office asked the court to determine an appropriate punishment complex for all the offenses, imprisonment Mashi alongside a suspended sentence and compensation for the victim of the crime.
Judge Porat added: "In passing the sentence, I considered the personal circumstances of the accused: his advanced age, his clean criminal record and his admission of guilt, even if at an advanced stage of the procedure.
I gave significant weight to his overall medical condition... Along with these, I will note that in his last words, it is evident that the accused does not address the seriousness of his actions and is focused on the effect of incarceration on his own condition - yes and no.
The general request for forgiveness 'from those who were harmed' does not show an awareness of the depth of the nightmare that caused the complainant and her family."
The court fully accepted the position of the prosecutor's office and emphasized that this sentence will be a tool to deter the many from severe acts of extortion which have become a quick and convenient "source of income" for many defendants. That being said, the court sentenced Shuvel to seven years in prison, two years of probation and compensation to the complainant, the bank clerk, in the amount of NIS 80,000.
