Eight Euros will carry the Olympic flame during its passage on July 6. Among them, Doctor Messaouda Marguier chosen for his commitment

A symbol of peace and union between peoples, the Olympic flame only appeared at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 and the opening ceremony at those in Berlin in 1936. Since then, the torch relay has been essential .

For Paris 2024, the torch will arrive in Marseille on May 8 and will light the Olympic cauldron at the Stade de France on July 26.

In the meantime, it will pass into the hands of 11,000 carriers.

On Saturday July 6, the flame will be in the department of Eure and will pass through the towns of Pont-Audemer, Bernay, Val-de-Reuil, Verneuil-d'Avre-et-d'Iton, Gisors, Vernon and Évreux.

Around a hundred Euro residents were chosen from among the sponsors as “scouts” for the Olympic and Paralympic flame, including eight by the community of the Eure department.

If everyone has good reasons through their dedication to run the required 200 meters, Dr. Messaouda Marguier alone represents energy, humility, good humor and commitment to others.

Universal values attached to the five rings.

A life dedicated to medicine

Of course, there is the standard bearer Alan Begot from Gisors, the cancer recovery referent Anne-Marie Benharoun from Boscroumois, the sports enthusiast Jean-Claude Daverton from Houlbec-Cocherel, the reservist of the National Gendarmerie Tarda Gardie from Évreux, the sports project manager Pauline Gassama from Évreux, the president of the Blouses Roses Isabelle Girard from Pacy-sur Eure and the Angolan judoka Jeremias Mateus Nginamau from Évreux.

The committee therefore also selected Doctor Messaouda Marguier.

At 59 years old, originally from Algeria, this woman has already devoted more than thirty years of her life to general medicine and her neighborhood: “I became a doctor through the chances of life.

My vocation was perhaps born when I was in 9th grade, after my father's serious car accident.

I even wanted to be a neurosurgeon.

And, there was also a little challenge to overcome when the principal's daughter of my college told me that I wouldn't be able to do it.

A form of revenge,” the doctor laughs again.

Raised in the Madeleine district, after her baccalaureate C, she joined her sister at the medical school of Rouen where she graduated in 1993: “I made my first replacement in 1994 then I settled in my neighborhood in 1995. Then, my career was a succession of commitments and a lot of work, beyond the requirements, with a lot of exchanges even if the support is more and more difficult.

University internship supervisor for 16 years - Messaouda Marguier receives two interns and three externs per year in her office -, first woman from Eure elected to the council of the order twenty years ago, instigator of the creation of the Maison de Santé opened a few months ago at Madeleine for more than thirty health professionals, Doctor Marguier has also been a doctor at the Departmental Children's Home in Évreux for 10 years.

A priesthood that leaves little room for the superfluous.

“Proud and honored”

It was Rachida Zeraia, director of the Departmental Children's Home, who proposed the doctor's candidacy as bearer of the Olympic flame.

“I didn’t know anything about it until I received an email to notify me of my selection.

Just like my daughter, I am very proud and honored.

Even if I am not a high-level athlete due to lack of time, I do a little tennis, aqua biking and walking.

But for me, the Olympic flame represents fraternity, respect for others and competition in life.

These are values that correspond to me because I have always taken action for others.

This is my commitment.

I'm looking forward to running these famous 200 meters.

A break of a few hours as a recognition.”
