At the Lenggrieser citizens' meeting, town hall boss Stefan Klaffenbacher looks back on the year 2023.

The number of guests has fallen significantly.

Lenggries - Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher began his review at the citizens' meeting with some statistical figures.

Lenggries is growing.

In mid-2023, the community had 10,153 residents, 45 more than in the previous year.

However, the birth rate of 81 babies was at its lowest level in the past ten years.

For comparison: 102 children were born in 2022.

The number of deaths fell from 113 to 110 and the number of marriages fell from 54 to 52.

14 percent fewer guests: overnight stays in Lenggries are declining

There was a significant decline (minus 14 percent) in guest arrivals and a similar decline in overnight stays.

This can be attributed to the weather-dependent booking behavior of guests, said Klaffenbacher.

In other words: if the snow is missing, the holidaymakers are also missing.

In addition, the largest hotel in town is currently closed.

There is a remedy here.

“The work will begin in April, the opening is planned for 2025,” said Klaffenbacher and showed sketches of what the converted Brauneck Hotel, which will then belong to the Marriott chain, should look like.

The rows were well filled on Friday evening at the citizens' meeting in the Alpine Festival Hall.

Despite the drop in numbers, the tourist information office has a lot to do.

Booking requests have to be processed, guests looked after and brochures sent out.

There were also 193 guided tours and other events with around 3,000 participants organized by the TI.

The 757,000 hits on the homepage show how great the interest in Lenggries is.

There were also 6.7 million clicks on the webcam at Brauneck.

The number of visitors to the “Isarwelle” and the outdoor pool also went up, reported Klaffenbacher, who now heads an administration with around 200 employees in all community facilities.

Major projects in the Lenggries community: a new nursing home is scheduled to open in 2025

He also highlighted the largest projects.

At the nursing home, “the work has progressed very, very well,” said Klaffenbacher.

The interior work is currently underway.

The 90-place home should be ready for occupancy in early summer 2025.

Both financially and in terms of time, we are fully on schedule.

The town hall boss emphasized that there had also been progress in the development of the barracks.

We are currently working on a new development plan that includes a commercial and mixed area.

The aim is, among other things, to create a daycare center and affordable housing for staff in daycare centers and nursing homes.

“But you should bring in further ideas and suggestions,” Klaffenbacher addressed the citizens.

The community has also not lost sight of the renovation of the barracks sports field.

There are discussions with the gymnastics club here.

In addition to the athletics facilities, they also want to implement a fitness course or fitness trail - but not this year.

Lenggries was also affected by the hail storm in August

The emergency services were extremely challenged after the hailstorm on August 26th.

The northern parts of the community were particularly affected, said Klaffenbacher.

The firefighters worked 2,227 hours.

If you only calculate an hourly wage of 20 euros, that would be 44,540 euros.

“But of course there was no billing because it was all done on a voluntary basis,” said the mayor, calling it “outstanding.”

The construction yard employees were also working non-stop.

There should be around 1000 hours here when everything is finished.

The listeners gave long-lasting applause for all the helpers.

At the end there was a look back at the biggest festivities - from participation in the Special Olympics to the rafting festival to the standard consecration in Fall.
