Socialist deputies announced on Wednesday that they were launching a commission of inquiry into child welfare (ASE), at the initiative of Isabelle Santiago, PS deputy for Val-de-Marne.

This system allows a political group to include on the agenda a proposed resolution aimed at creating a commission of inquiry.

The latter should be launched within a fortnight, according to the deadlines in force in the National Assembly, and can last up to six months.

It must include parliamentarians from all groups, within the limit of 30 deputies and 21 senators.

A response to “a cry of warning”

“With this commission of inquiry, we wish to shed light on the dysfunctions of social assistance for children,” specify the PS deputies in a press release.

Our parliamentary commission of inquiry is a response to the legitimate cry of warning from the various child protection actors.

In her presentation of the commission to her colleagues, Isabelle Santiago recalled that it was “necessary to emphasize the extent to which the field of child protection is running out of steam”, pointing out a lack of personnel, structure and structures that are often unsuitable for welcoming young people “with traumatic backgrounds”.

The elected representative from the Ile-de-France region, mobilized on the subject, first intends to “shed light on all the dysfunctions of the system” before making proposals.
