The municipality of Unterföhring is financing its budget this year primarily from reserves.

From these it takes 110 million euros.

The savings account is still full to the brim.

Unterföhring - It's good if you have a well-filled savings account like the community of Unterföhring.

Then even larger investments can be financed effortlessly.

The 2024 budget, approved unanimously by the local council, this time amounts to 237.82 million euros.

While the administrative budget (124.88 million), i.e. ongoing operations, can be largely covered by income from trade and income taxes, the asset budget (112.94 million) with the costs for various projects looks somewhat different The municipality finances this almost completely by digging deep into its reserves, from which a whopping 109.27 million will be withdrawn this year.

Nevertheless, the municipal savings account remains well filled with almost 111 million euros, which makes Mayor Andreas Kemmelmeyer (PWU) proud: “We are now debt-free for the 15th year in a row and can continue to tackle the upcoming major projects without loans.”

Good news for the approximately 11,000 residents, whose families benefit from free childcare, which costs the municipality around eleven million euros per year.

In 2024, the expenditure on the capital budget will cost around 64 million euros for building and civil engineering work - the new fire station should be ready for occupancy at the end of the year, the renovation of the elementary school on Bahnhofstrasse, including a new ventilation system, will also be coming to an end, and mid/ The after-school care center is expected to be completed at the end of May 2025.

The intergenerational living project begins this year in May with the groundbreaking ceremony, while the new town hall building continues to require patience due to the change in architects.

In addition, 29.3 million are earmarked for land purchases.

We are creating the foundations for generations and to ensure that Unterföhring remains livable in the long term.

Mayor Andreas Kemmelmeyer

“We are creating the foundations for generations and to ensure that Unterföhring remains livable in the long term,” summed up Kemmelmeyer.

The mayor emphasized that the budget had been “constructively discussed” in advance, which is why its adoption by the local council was basically without discussion.

“The result is impressive,” Sabine Fister (SPD) praised the budget, Manuel Prieler (PWU) found: “The figures are solidly positioned for the benefit of the community and allow us to look positively into the future.”

When it comes to assessment rates, everything remains as before with trade tax (330 percent) and property tax A and B (250 percent).

Speaking of trade tax: According to Kemmelmeyer, the 90 million euros calculated last year were, in the end, “even slightly exceeded, which is not a given”. However, the approach for 2024 of 65 million euros was deliberately chosen cautiously: “We can be optimistic that it will “Ultimately there will be more, but we don’t take that into account.”

There was also an outlook on the financial plan for the coming years.

In 2025, the withdrawal from reserves is expected to be quite high again at 48.8 million euros, but then much more moderate at 8.97 million euros - and for 2027, Unterföhring even expects to pad the reserves again by a good five million euros - then, according to the figures, almost 58 million euros in the municipal savings account.

A sum that many other municipalities look at with envy.

One thing is certain: Unterföhring still does not need any loans and remains debt-free.
