Force of nature: After severe storms in Croatia, a tourist boat weighing several tons was stranded on the road in Nin near Zadar.

The boat looks like a memorial to the forces of nature that swept across Croatia.
Storms caused enormous damage, particularly on the Adriatic coast.
Nin – Extreme weather hit the holiday destination Croatia.
Torrential rains flooded fields and roads.
Sections of the Adriatic Motorway were partly impassable.
Rivers overflowed their banks.
Mass water flooded houses and a hurricane-like storm damaged numerous roofs.
Little by little the extent of the forces of nature becomes visible.

The Croatian authorities had warned residents and tourists about the storm.
Numerous ferry connections have been suspended.
The storm then swept across Croatia in the night from Sunday to Monday.
On the Adriatic coast in the Zadar region, measuring stations recorded record rainfall.

“This much rain has not fallen in Zadar since 1961!”, the news portal quotes meteorologist Zoran Vakula.
Looking at the entire month of March, some rainfall totals are already record-breaking.
So far, 223 mm of precipitation has been measured at the Zadar Puntamika train station measuring station.
The previous record for the entire March came from 1985 with 202 mm.
When there are storms in Croatia, masses of water simply sweep tourist boats away
Due to the heavy rainfall, areas of land and roads, for example near Nin, are under water.
As can be seen from a photo on social networks, the masses of water must have been almost unstoppable.
A tourist boat weighing several tons was torn away from its mooring in the storm and landed on a road.
Floods in Croatia hit holiday islands hard
The storm also caused major damage on the offshore islands of Zadar.
“The water was literally pouring out of the basement and there was no way out, just wait until it was all over,” a resident of the small island of Iž told the news portal

Almost all the houses there were badly damaged, including the church and a school.
A landslide on the island of Dugi otok is making one of the most important transport links impassable.

No further rainfall is expected in most of the country over the next few days.
