Will there be strikes during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games?

A few months before the Olympics, the CGT is keeping up the pressure.

“The government so despises the world of work that it has not understood that the success of the Olympics depends on the work of hundreds of thousands of workers,” denounces Sophie Binet, general secretary of the union at the microphone of France Inter this Wednesday .

“One of the key values of the Games is also the social issue,” defends Sophie Binet.

France is a benchmark country in terms of freedom and social rights, the least it can do is set an example.”

“Obviously employees want to participate in the success of the Games, but not in disregard of their social and health situation,” continues the trade unionist.

If strike notices have not yet been filed by the CGT, adds Sophie Binet, they must be filed at the beginning of April in the three public functions (State, local authorities and hospital) to cover the entire period concerned.

They result from degraded working conditions, skipped vacations, extended days, limited compensatory rest, in exchange for bonuses whose amount varies depending on the employer.

“It’s not true that strikes only take place in these critical moments, but that’s when we talk about them the most,” refutes Sophie Binet.

Bonuses of up to 1,500 euros

The government has already promised bonuses of 500, 1,000 or 1,500 euros for civil servants mobilized on the ground, depending on the degree of their mobilization.
