, reported this Wednesday that two men members of the opposition political organization

La Causa R

were arrested in the town of Maturín for planning the assassination of President Nicolás Maduro.

According to the magistrate, the crimes attributed to the detainees are those of

"conspiracy and threats of assassination"

against the Venezuelan president.

These people were identified as

Whillfer José Piña Azuaje and Renzo Estibenz Flores

, who began these acts in May 2023 and continued over time until the present.

Among the evidence found by the authorities is the publication of a threat in a

WhatsApp

status by Piña, which says that "in Maturín (where the Venezuelan president traveled on Monday) will be the death of Maduro."

On the seized phone "a conversation (of Piña) with Renzo Flores was found in which groups of armed hooded men were mentioned" to proceed with the operation they were planning with other "people", whose names were not found in the text.

The prosecutor explained that, when questioned, Renzo Flores acknowledged that he met Piña eight months ago and that he had told him about

a plan that he was organizing

with former classmates from the Military Academy, consisting "of recruiting 50 soldiers to take a tank and the weapons park of a military compound to

carry out a coup d'état".
