The Enel Green Power South Africa (EGP RSA) construction site for the construction of three wind energy plants was inaugurated yesterday near Oyster Bay, in the Eastern Cape province on the south-eastern coast of South Africa.

The completed project is destined to become one of the largest wind production sites in Southern Africa.

The joint venture between Enel Green Power, the branch of the Enel Group dedicated to the development and management of renewable energy plants around the world, and the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), recently signed three contracts for the sale of long-term electricity with Air Liquide Large Industries South Africa and Sasol South Africa plan to supply 330 MW of renewable energy to the Sasol site in Secunda (in the north-eastern province of Mpumalanga), where Air Liquide operates the largest oxygen production plant in the world.

Enel Green Power RSA thus becomes one of the first renewable energy companies to conclude contracts specifically for large-scale commercial and industrial use in South Africa.

The wind energy plants under construction, Impofu East, Impofu West and Impofu North, will be operational in 2026 and at full capacity will produce 330 MW of green energy which will be added to the over 1.2 GW of renewable energy that Enel Green Power already has in operation in the country.

This is the first joint project between Enel Green Power and Qiada when they signed a partnership to build and operate renewable energy plants in sub-Saharan Africa.
