They were announced for 2025, then their delivery was successively postponed to 2026 and, last September, to January 2027. Finally, the first examples of the 146 new MI20 trains long awaited on the RER B should not be delivered by Alstom before... June 2027, in the best case scenario.
The story is worthy of Ubu Roi.
The reason for this umpteenth delay in fact lies in a new European directive imposed on railway vehicle manufacturers.
These must now be subjected to a crash test with a truck on a level crossing to be approved.
And the fact that there is no level crossing on the entire RER B line changes nothing.
Certifer, the company responsible for train certifications on behalf of the RATP, ensures that no exemption is possible... Result: the delivery of the MI20s will be at least six additional months late.
