"If March began with cold and heavy snowfall in many places in the Aosta Valley, the meteorological winter (i.e. December, January and February) which has just ended was the warmest ever recorded in the Aosta Valley, just like the autumn 2023".
Thus the functional center of the Valle d'Aosta region.
"At our reference station of Saint-Christophe airport - the technicians continue in a post - the average temperature of the three winter months was +5°C, more than three degrees higher than the thirty-year average (1991-2020) equal to 1.9° C".
In detail "we had three hot periods (in the week of Christmas, at the end of January and at the beginning of February) with minimum temperatures above 10°C and maximum temperatures above 20°C. The minimum temperature was -9.6°C on 7 December".
In the face of record temperatures, "the average winter rainfall in the region was 190 millimetres, over 50 millimeters more than the average for the period, distributed mainly along the north-western ridge".
