The police stopped a rolling time bomb on the A8 at Irschenberg: a Polish tractor-trailer with a long list of defects.

Parts of the loaded hazardous substance were already escaping from the trailer.

Irschenberg

- A trained ear helped the officers of the Rosenheim Traffic Police Inspectorate (VPI) to catch a big one on the A8.

On Wednesday, March 12th, they withdrew a semi-trailer truck registered in Poland and driven by a 32-year-old Ukrainian from traffic on Irschenberg because of a banging tire noise.

The truck was carrying dangerous goods and was traveling north from Italy.

And given the numerous deficiencies that emerged during the inspection, it was a rolling time bomb.

Long list of defects for dangerous goods trucks

As the VPI Rosenheim reports, the officers first examined the trailer's wheels.

Four out of six tires had a flat tire.

That's not all: the load wasn't properly secured either.

The driver had simply lashed the plastic bags containing the environmentally hazardous solid chromium6, which came from a demolished factory, with straps, which compressed them heavily.

On top of that, the packaging was so wet due to heavy rain in Italy that even small amounts of water with the dangerous goods dissolved in it escaped and contaminated the trailer.

As if those weren't enough defects, an employee of the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility who happened to be at the checkpoint discovered that the truck driver had also not paid the toll costs.

Fines for driver and company

The Ukrainian was no longer allowed to continue driving.

The dangerous goods were laboriously reloaded and the flat tires were changed.

The driver had to pay a three-digit euro amount as security and, on top of that, a three-digit fine for the evaded toll.

According to the police, the Italian company that loaded the dangerous goods will be fined heavily.

On top of that, she has to bear the costs of reloading at Irschenberg.
