Just over a year ago, the lottery shop on Bahnhofstrasse burned down completely.

Now the Hanrieder family is reopening the shop.

It is ultra-modern.

Gauting

- The lottery shop that Johannes Hanrieder and his wife Katrin are reopening next Saturday has a new logo: a lion.

“That suits us, we had to fight too,” says the wife.

The animal is decorated in colors that mean a lot to the couple.

“Red, blue and white also played a role in our wedding,” she says.

In fact, the Gilchingers had to endure a lot of setbacks - until Johannes Hanrieder's mother and stepfather finally made a new start possible by selling a piece of land.

“We are incredibly happy,” says the wife.

“There is light at the end of the tunnel.”

As befits the day, there will be a big celebration starting at 10 a.m.

Among other things, there will be a magician and regular customers can help themselves to a buffet.

Many of them can no longer wait to finally cover their daily needs for newspapers, magazines, tobacco and office supplies in the shop on Bahnhofstrasse - and, above all, to type the (hopefully) correct numbers for the weekend again.

“Lotto actually didn't want to put the terminal in front of us until next week.

But we objected.

“That’s not possible,” says the businesswoman.

For a few days now, customers have been knocking on the glass front lined with newspaper and asking when it will start again.

When the old shop went up in flames on May 2, 2023, the family of four was left with nothing.

The hope of getting back on his feet soon was not fulfilled because the insurance company refused to pay the 156,000 euros due.

This got the Hanrieders into great difficulties; everyday life was difficult and debts piled up.

Only the willingness of Johannes Hanrieder's mother Monika and stepfather Hans-Joachim Okken to sell land brought relief.

“Of the 100,000 euros, 65,000 were wasted on debts alone,” says Katrin Hanrieder – including medical bills for the children.

With the rest, the new lottery shop was repaired in a major effort over the past few weeks.

By the way: The lawsuit against the insurance company is still ongoing.

“They drag out the process and demand evidence that they have had for a long time,” says the Gilching native.

Nevertheless, she is sure that she will get the money one day.

“We’ll win the case.”

Anyone who enters the store soon will probably notice some changes.

While the old store was deliberately old-fashioned in terms of furniture, the new one is ultra-modern.

The family got some of them from a closed stationery store near Markt Indersdorf, others were custom-made.

The shop is also a bit smaller now because the walls had to be insulated.

There will be a drinks box in front of the store, and Hermes packages can also be dropped off or picked up.

The opening times are again very generous, Monday to Saturday from early morning to evening.

“We’ll see how we manage it with the children,” says Katrin Hanrieder.

Son Lenny has just turned one year old, daughter Jenny is seven years old.

The two are looking for part-time work in the medium term.

And the lion?

Will be ubiquitous in the store.

The couple even wants to wear work uniforms with the logo.

“Maybe I’ll even get it tattooed on me,” says Katrin Hanrieder.

A fighter as a good luck charm – that certainly can’t hurt.
