Landing in Riga means landing at the rear of the Ukrainian war, not far from the front line.
Nothing visible, obviously, in this calm and cozy Baltic capital.
But this is how little Latvia and its two Baltic neighbors, Lithuanian and Estonian, have been experiencing the conflict since February 24, 2022. Fearing that the Russian Bear will advance on them again in the event of Kiev's defeat, these former Soviet republics occupied by force in 1939 then 1945, and only liberated in 1991, are all fully involved with their Ukrainian neighbor.
