After cannabis legalization, smoking weed will be allowed in public in Munich.

However, special rules apply to the urban area.

Munich – There are 269 public schools in Munich, 1500 daycare centers and 765 playgrounds.

Things get pretty tight for stoners there.

Because if cannabis consumption is decriminalized by law, it will still not be allowed in all places in the city.

There is currently still a debate at the political level about whether the planned starting point for legalization on April 1st can be maintained.

Municipalities complain that important questions have not yet been clarified.

The law will come before the Bundesrat on March 22nd; the Bundestag has already passed it.

Map shows where stoners in Munich have to be careful despite legalization

Cannabis enthusiasts have already put together where consumption will be permitted.

The so-called Bubatz card takes into account the restrictions provided for in the law.

It was developed “initially out of personal interest”, but may also contain incorrect or incomplete information, it says on the homepage.

The Bubatz map uses material from OpenStreetMap, which contains freely usable geodata.

In youth language, “Bubatz” stands for both a joint and cannabis in general.

Cannabis legalization is approaching: where consumption remains prohibited

Cannabis consumption is prohibited within a radius of 100 meters (“visibility”) around schools, daycare centers, playgrounds and public sports facilities.

According to the draft law, smoking weed is not allowed in pedestrian zones between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Consumption is also prohibited in the area of so-called cannabis social clubs (see below) and within their sight.

The restrictions are primarily explained by reasons of youth protection.

Consumption is generally prohibited in the “immediate presence” of people under the age of 18.

Areas where cannabis consumption will not be possible are marked red on the Bubatz map.

Looking at the section for Munich, it is noticeable that not that many zones are marked green (consumption permitted).

According to the Bubatz map, the Theresienwiese, the West Park, the Nymphenburg Palace Park and parts of the English Garden should be considered urban “stoner paradises”.

The forest and eastern cemeteries, for example, are almost entirely colored green.

Not all Munich residents will find it appropriate if the joints are glowing there as a result of legalization.

The Bubatz map shows where consumption should be possible in Munich.

How detailed the regulations could be can be seen, among other things, at Flaucher.

Here, with a view of the playground not far from the beer garden, it depends exactly where stoners set up their place.

Many red markings can be found in the neighborhoods close to the center, where many schools and daycare centers are located.

For example, visits to Obergiesing, Sendling or Au could become a risky game for consumers.

Cannabis law: What are the rules for possession?

  • Possession of 25 grams in public spaces (personal use) is permitted.

Up to 50 grams can be stored at home.

  • A maximum of three female plants may be grown privately.

Harvesting may only be done for personal consumption.

  • Cannabis Social Clubs (CSC) are allowed to grow THC-containing hemp plants and distribute limited quantities (25 grams/day and a total of 50 grams/month) to club members.

Members must pay a fixed monthly fee.

There is significantly more freedom for stoners on the Bubatz map in the Munich area.

Will corresponding pilgrimages to the countryside take place after legalization?

The community of Aschheim wants to prevent exactly that and is resisting a planned weed shop.

Its operator reacts to the community's resistance in a deeply relaxed manner.
