Martín Lousteau anticipated in his speech in the Senate that he will vote against Javier Milei's DNU and sent a strong message within radicalism to those who want to support the decree.
"To those who wear Alfonsín, I recommend that you read it
," remarked the head of the national UCR.
"There are no exceptional circumstances, there is no impossibility of ordinary processing and there is no transitory nature.
The DNU is unconstitutional
," Lousteau emphasized his position.
"I'm going to vote against the DNU because it is unconstitutional. I'm not saying it, the entire spectrum of constitutionalists in Argentina says it. Even Ramírez Calvo, who advised Sturzenegger himself, says it. We shouldn't have anything else to discuss," said the senator for the City of Buenos Aires.
He stressed that the decree "is illegal."
And he continued: "Those who fill their mouths talking about the rule of law and institutions, today look to the side and defend something that is clearly unconstitutional. They can justify it in some cases by conviction, because they mutated them, in others by convenience , in others out of fear, because the President intimidates and threatens or because the end justifies the means."
Little by little he brought his message closer to those who are in doubt or plan to accompany Milei's DNU.
"Those who endorse this tool today at any cost are creating a monster. Imagine the President you hate the most. Imagine that this is the person who is in power and who can use the DNU against everything you believe in. That It is what is happening and it is what we have to vote on," Lousteau remarked.
And then he left his message to the inside of the bloc that he makes up in the Upper House.
"Those who wear Alfonsín, I recommend that they read it," began the senator for the City of Buenos Aires, holding up the volume of Raúl Alfonsín's "Political Memory."
He read a passage from the former president's speech at the Constituent Convention about putting "limits" to the DNU, a precedent on which he supports his rejection of Javier Milei's economic deregulation decree.
"In the Constituent Convention he said that 'this system of ideas reduces the strength of Argentine presidentialism because for the DNUs it was necessary to establish a norm that would put a stop to this, so that the presidents of the future would have express limitations that would avoid government by decree'", he recited.

"The President loves to quote Alberdi, and the president of the Supreme Court has already said that there are many who quote him but do not read him," Lousteau recalled the recent words of Horacio Rosatti.
And he resorted to a passage from Alberdi to support his position.
"He said: 'The constitution of Paraguay (1844) that allowed the DNU was from the dictatorship, because it doesn't matter that it formally recognizes the division of powers, then it throws it down,'" Lousteau recalled.
Later, he returned to look at the decree and deepened his questioning of Milei: "It overwhelms provincial autonomies, it defunds education, it does not govern the budget.
It accumulates power and instills fear.
A person like that should not be given a DNU.
"He doesn't see the real world, he sees the networks."
And he concluded again looking at his benchmates.
"I vote according to my convictions, not because of fashion. There is another way of doing things. We can do things well so as not to go back," she emphasized.
Lousteau has been, since early on, a favorite target of libertarians.
Around 3:00 p.m. he voted against postponing the debate for the DNU, a request made by the head of the La Libertad Avanza bloc.
