After four years, the fire on the construction site of the future Beauvaisis theater, which was initially due to open in January 2021, has reached the legal level.
This Thursday, the Beauvais-based company Launet, specializing in metal working, had to answer for several breaches of regulations: “Employment of a temporary worker without having provided him with appropriate safety training”, “absence of a fire extinguisher near the workstation” and “unintentional injuries”, that is to say the inhalation of toxic fumes by David Joulin, the architect who designed the building.
The latter was present at the hearing and was able to recount, with a certain emotion, the events of July 23, 2020. “The fire broke out during the lunch break,” he said.
I was coming back from lunch with the works manager when I saw a person running with a bucket in his hand.
When we arrived in the hall, there were flames 2 meters high.
I went to get two fire extinguishers from the life base, 35 meters away, but by the time I returned, the flames were 5 meters high.
I understood that we would not put out the fire.
I ran everywhere to evacuate people, until I found myself stuck on the 3rd floor.
