Supreme Court President Justice Uzi Fogelman wrote today (Thursday) to Justice Minister Yariv Levin that "additional meetings of the committee for selecting judges should be scheduled as soon as possible - the load in the system is severe and dozens of standards remain vacant."
Fogelman states in his letter that there are 55 vacant positions in the judicial system.
The president also notes that in May the term of office of the commissioner of complaints about the judges will expire and therefore a new commissioner must be appointed.

Fogelman wrote that in three meetings of the committee it did not occur to her to choose judges according to the planned agenda.
"The severe shortage of judges in the various courts, as well as the burden on the courts, are well known, and I presented these things to you at our last meeting as well," Fogelman writes.
"I will request that additional meetings of the committee be scheduled as soon as possible, in order for us to be able to select judges for the vacant standards in the system."
He asked to set the dates before April and May, when discussions on the election of judges for the Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Central Districts are supposed to take place.
