announced on Monday, the new format “Three Plates for Lafer” with the 66-year-old Austrian will start in early summer.

Three amateur chefs from three different generations compete and each create a culinary plate based on a motto given by Johann Lafer.

“It's not just about the competition, but above all about the passion for cooking of three generations.

“That has great added value,” explains the star chef.

The program slot ahead of Lafer will go to his Austrian compatriot Alexander Kumptner, as the private broadcaster announced on Wednesday.

“The Bargain Menu” is about cooking the best three-course meal with a budget of just 20 euros.

This is the 40-year-old's second attempt at his own cooking show on Sat.1.

Two years ago he hosted “Twice cooks better”.

However, the format was canceled after a few months due to weak ratings.

Nevertheless, Sat.1 will focus even more on the topic of cooking in the future - not just at prime time.

There are already some successful formats in the evening program with “The Taste”, “The Big Celebrity Baking” and “Fridge Open!”.

Now things are supposed to get hot in the kitchens in the afternoon too.

“Baking and cooking is at the core of Sat.1’s brand.

In our new cooking shows in the afternoon, viewers will be culinary inspired by two true top chefs.

There are also lots of down-to-earth tips that everyone can incorporate into their everyday cooking routine.

I'm looking forward to two hours of cooking with Johann Lafer's 'Three Plates for Lafer' and Alexander Kumptner's 'The Bargain Menu',” says station manager Marc Rasmus.

It remains to be seen whether the new TV formats will be able to establish themselves in the long term.

In the past few months, Sat.1 has changed the afternoon several times.
