The date is finally set.

A “guidance bill for agricultural sovereignty and the renewal of generations in agriculture” will be presented to the Council of Ministers on March 29, the office of the Minister of Agriculture indicated this Thursday in a message to journalists.

In preparation for more than a year, the text has been significantly revised since the start of the agricultural crisis in January, changing titles several times in the process.

The government had initially mentioned the date of March 20 for a presentation to the Council of Ministers.

This Monday, during the presentation of the parliamentary calendar, it was announced that deputies would take up the draft law on agriculture from May 13.

After the strong mobilization of farmers in January, the government indicated that it wanted to “consolidate” the text by adding simplification measures such as the simplification of the texts on hedges.

A meeting in Matignon, another planned at the Élysée

The President of the Republic also committed to recognizing agriculture “as a major general interest of the French nation” and to enshrining it in law.

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal received all the agricultural unions this Monday evening.

Representatives of three agricultural unions told AFP that Gabriel Attal had asked them during this meeting in Matignon what measures the President of the Republic could announce at their next meeting to put an end to the mobilization of farmers.

A meeting between the organizations and Emmanuel Macron is also planned but the date has not yet been set.

The government, in an attempt to appease the anger of the profession which exploded in January, has already committed to numerous projects.

The protest movement has subsided since the beginning of February but actions are still carried out sporadically and the unions remain demanding.

For example, the Rural Coordination carried out an action this Monday in Bordeaux (Gironde) in front of the hotel in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and in front of the department prefecture.
