“The Perfect Dinner” has been broadcast on VOX for 18 years.

Now a candidate reveals how hard filming really is.

Cologne – At “The Perfect Dinner” five amateur chefs compete against each other and serve a three-course menu.

The candidates then rate each other, where in addition to taste, service and presentation also count.

The successful VOX program has now been on television for 18 years.

The anniversary was celebrated with a special episode: amateur cook Sylvia invited people to her apartment in Cologne.

In 2018, her husband Thomas had already won “The Perfect Dinner”.

It wasn't enough for Sylvia to win, but she then gave exclusive insights behind the scenes of the show.

“The Perfect Dinner”: Candidate opens up about tough filming

Accordingly, the day of filming for “The Perfect Dinner” starts early in the morning.

“They tell you the day before: the doorbell will ring at half past eight,” reports Sylvia in an interview with “Express.de”.

“And then we shoot.

Then we stand there with the camera.

Then don't be shocked when you open the door and the camera is already running.

That was the first meeting.”

There is one day of filming per person, which can extend into the night.

Sylvia's guests even stayed until three in the morning.

“But if you're good with your time, you'll be finished eating by about half past ten.

And then there are the reviews.

And they still take time,” she adds.

“The Perfect Dinner”: No break for the candidates

Of course, cooking has to be done during the day before the guests arrive in the evening.

But even in between there is no time to take a breather with “The Perfect Dinner”.

“Interviews are filmed there.

About the person, about the family, hobbies.

Unfortunately, this will be filmed during the break.

“So you don’t have the break to take a shower or get ready for the evening,” says the amateur cook.

According to Sylvia, even the candidates who don't have to cook that day have a full program: “Every afternoon at two or three in the afternoon we had an appointment in some pub and then we were given the menu.

And then we went back home and then you had another hour and then you had to be with the host.” The show recently made unpleasant headlines: a “Perfect Dinner” candidate was in mortal danger.
