Eggshell powder for dogs – it’s so easy to make it yourself
First boil or wash the eggs in boiling water or heat the raw eggshells on a baking tray in the oven at 95 °C for about 15 minutes.
Washing and heating are necessary to remove any remaining dirt from the bowls and to disinfect them.
Using a mortar or blender, crush the clean eggshells until you have as fine a powder as possible.
The finer the shells are ground, the better dogs can utilize the nutrients they contain.
This also prevents sharp eggshells from causing injuries.
When is a supplement necessary?
If you already give complete dog food as a complete feed, it is not advisable to add eggshells, as the calcium requirements are probably already covered in this case.
Too much calcium can be unhealthy for dogs.
If you are unsure about the correct dosage, consult your veterinarian.
If necessary, he can create a nutrition plan for your dog to prevent an over- or under-supply of important nutrients.
