Eggshell powder for dogs – it’s so easy to make it yourself

  • First boil or wash the eggs in boiling water or heat the raw eggshells on a baking tray in the oven at 95 °C for about 15 minutes.

Washing and heating are necessary to remove any remaining dirt from the bowls and to disinfect them.

  • Using a mortar or blender, crush the clean eggshells until you have as fine a powder as possible.

  • The finer the shells are ground, the better dogs can utilize the nutrients they contain.

This also prevents sharp eggshells from causing injuries.

    When is a supplement necessary?

If you already give complete dog food as a complete feed, it is not advisable to add eggshells, as the calcium requirements are probably already covered in this case.

Too much calcium can be unhealthy for dogs.
