It was a dispute between two thirty-year-old friends which ended Wednesday evening before the Essonne departmental criminal court.

The accused, during a fight, stabbed the victim, who was also armed with a knife, in the throat.

A blow that could have been fatal.

Accused of violence with a weapon followed by permanent disability, this 44-year-old man was sentenced to three years in prison, one of which was suspended.

Permanent disability was ultimately not accepted in view of the testimony of an expert noting a favorable evolution of the injury.

The facts date back to November 16, 2018 in Corbeil-Essonnes.

For several days, the two childhood friends had been at odds, with the victim demanding that the accused quickly repay the 100 euros he had lent her.

Insults were exchanged over the phone.

The victim finally obtained an appointment to resolve things.

Dropped off at the hospital by his friend

But the meeting immediately degenerated.

Everyone pulled out a knife and blows were struck.

The two men's versions differ on who pulled a gun first and the order of the shots.

The accused was injured in the arm.

But the victim was hit several times.

His jacket was torn at the arm and he received two stab wounds, scarring him in the calf and throat.

His attacker then loaded him into his car and drove him to the Sud Ile-de-France hospital center in Corbeil-Essonnes, where he left his telephone number before leaving.

“It is a balanced and coherent decision,” said the defense lawyer, Me Arnaud Simonard, at the end of the hearing.

The court did not accept the criminal classification and drew all the consequences.

» The lawyer for the civil party, Me Damien Brossier, for his part regretted having “been deprived of the debate on homicidal intent”.

The investigation was opened as attempted murder before being reclassified during the investigation as violence with a weapon.

“This blow could have been fatal,” recalls the lawyer.

The attorney general had requested a harsher sentence of seven years in prison.
