This year, things are getting serious about natural gas drilling near Reichling: drilling operations are scheduled to take place in the spring or summer and last for 40 days.

Before that, the place has to be prepared starting in April, which takes 60 days.

Reichling

- At the Reichling citizens' meeting, Eckard Oehms and Jürgen Milinski from the company "Genexco" recently gave an outlook on what is planned for this year and next year in terms of gas drilling in Reichling.

Renate Pechnig from the “Geophysica-Beratungsgesellschaft” also informed that the use of geothermal energy is also possible.

The water at a depth of around 3,000 meters is 120 degrees hot.

An example of a geothermal power plant in the region is Geretsried, which is currently under construction.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

Of the drilling sites near Kromerhof near Reichling, one is suitable for natural gas and one for geothermal energy, it is said.

Natural gas could probably be produced at the drilling site south of the road that leads towards Rott.

The drilling site north of the Kromerhof, in the east of Reichling, would be suitable for geothermal energy.

Drill site will be set up in 60 days

According to Oehms, the construction of the drilling site takes 60 days.

Drilling operations will then run for about a month to a depth of 3,200 meters.

The technical term for this is the final depth.

There are also ten days for assembly and dismantling.

In Reichling they want to use the same drilling rig that was built by Bayerngas in Brandenburg ten years ago.

The winding tower reaches a height of 35 meters.

Nothing heard since 2022

The setting up of the drilling site, which will be approximately 1000 square meters in size, is carried out under the supervision of the South Bavaria Mining Authority, as is the drilling operation.

Evaluations and further planning, which take six to three quarters of a year, must be approved by the South Bavaria Mining Authority.

This authority is part of the government of Upper Bavaria.

If, after the evaluations, the requirements are met and the green light can be given, removal is conceivable for up to 15 years.

As at the citizens' meeting in December 2022, there were again questions.

Keywords for this were drinking water protection, noise, environmental impact, subsidence, truck traffic, jobs and removal.

Criticism was particularly loud because nothing had been heard about the project for 15 months and no event of its own had been scheduled.

“We do not come into contact with the drinking water layer during the drilling,” emphasized technician Oehms.

His company, based in Berlin, applied for a license in May 2022.

At the beginning of October 2022, the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs granted this permission.

Is “fracking” used?

A resident from the Erbistal in Reichling wanted to know whether the “fracking” process was also used, which requires a large number of chemicals and may also be released into the air.

Oehms denied that.

Flame flaring only occurs during the first test.

The environmental report was prepared between March and September last year, it was said at the citizens' meeting.

“Genexco” lawyer Milisinski pointed out that the company is in constant contact with the community about the project.

Criticism from citizens was, of course, loud because the topic of gas drilling was discussed twice in citizens' meetings together with many other topics.

The question was: “Why wasn’t there a separate information event?”

The question about the information event remains open

“We understand,” replied Oehms.

They want to meet the need for information.

He encouraged people to take part in tours of the drilling site.

Will the separate information evening be held exclusively about the gas field on the Lech and possible geothermal energy?

The answer remains open.

The local newspapers in the Weilheim-Schongau district are represented on Instagram under “merkur_wm_sog”.

A woman from Reichling submitted an application to the citizens' meeting at short notice and requested a separate appointment for information about the gas field.

The application will be called upon by the local council, said Mayor Johannes Hintersberger.
