An unannounced farmers' protest led to the cancellation of a Green Party event in Bavaria.

Their spokesman also criticized Markus Söder to Merkur.de.

Bamberg - “The participants were shouted at, insulted and intimidated.” This is what the Bamberg-Land Greens report on their website about an incident a few weeks ago.

On Wednesday, February 21st, the annual general meeting of the Bamberg-Land Green Party took place in the old school in Hirschaid - this was “massively disrupted by an unannounced demonstration in Hirschaid.”

Angry farmers' protest disrupts annual general meeting: Greens cancel event

There had already been announcements and warnings in advance that the event would be disrupted.

“As the district board, we had made an offer that we would be happy to have a conversation from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Unfortunately,

only very few people on site took advantage of this offer, but there were occasional discussions,” explains Tim-Luca Rosenheimer, spokesman for Alliance 90/The Greens Bamberg-Land, to

Merkur.de

.

According to reports, a “mob of around 300 people” stood in front of the school and disrupted the meeting.

“Again and again people were aggressively hitting the windows, shining lights on them and filming them.

The biggest shock came when there was a loud explosion,” the website continues.

The event then had to be ended for security reasons.

The party members “had to be led in groups through the visibly heated mob under police protection.

This resulted in the most violent insults, intimidation and threats towards Green Party members.”

“The aim was (...) to massively disrupt and intimidate”: Green event in Hirschaid canceled

“I was particularly shocked by the aggression that was shown towards us volunteers.

The aim here was not to enter into a discourse, but rather to massively disrupt and intimidate our meeting.

Unlike us.

“My speaker colleague and I actively approached the counter-actionists and offered talks,” Rosenheimer reports of his impressions weeks after the incident.

We were pleased by the “quick and solidarity-based statements from many democratic parties,” continued Rosenheimer.

The same applies to the expressions of solidarity from cross-party and cross-organizational alliances in Bamberg, the clarity of Ilse Aigner's statement and that of the parliamentary group leader of the Free Voters in the state parliament, as well as the reaction of the mayor of Hirschaid.

“I find it worrying that the CSU across the board finds it so difficult to condemn border crossings against democratic assemblies without (partial) relativization,” criticizes Rosenheimer.

Criticism of Markus Söder after statements about the incident involving the Bamberg Greens

This particularly applies to Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder.

In an open letter shortly after the incident, the Greens Bamberg-Land massively criticized the CSU boss: “In this long list of expressions of solidarity, however, those of the farmers' association and the LSV association are missing.

But not only that!

You, Mr. Prime Minister, are accusing us of being “mimosa-like” and of abstract complicity in these increasing incidents.”

Excerpt from the open letter from the Greens Bamberg-Land

We can't leave it like this!

With such a statement you are indirectly protecting the perpetrators and blaming the GREENS for the riots of the “mob”.

And above all, with your statement you are insulting us, who held what was actually an unspectacular annual general meeting in an orderly manner for as long as possible that evening, despite all the hostility.

Only when there was no other option did we stop on the advice of the police.

We stood firm.

As volunteers, we showed a face for democracy and left the building through the front entrance under police protection and insults.

As a “country father”, you in particular should be aware of the disservice you are doing to voluntary work when you pour ridicule and scorn on the affected volunteers.

It is your responsibility as Prime Minister to face them without reservation.

Showing unrestricted solidarity should be just as obvious here as ensuring non-negotiable protection for volunteers across party and organizational boundaries.

Our democracy and our society thrive on the commitment of these people.

It is your responsibility as Prime Minister to face them without reservation.

We also expect this from your deputy Hubert Aiwanger and from the CSU parliamentary group leader in the Bavarian state parliament Klaus Holetschek.

We remain with kind regards in the hope of a clear statement and committed protection of voluntary work in Bavaria

“Relativization of violence”: Green Party criticism of CSU boss Söder

“I expect the Bavarian Prime Minister to protect all democratic assemblies, without any ifs or buts,” demands Rosenheimer to

Merkur.de

.

“Söder himself said to Caren Miosga last Sunday: [...] I really have no problem saying that when it comes to freedom of democracy, the rule of law, there are no ifs and buts at all, but that the politics of the "We are no longer allowed to criticize the Greens [...]'." So Söder knew that he had to protect himself in front of democratic assemblies, but he couldn't even manage to leave out the "but" in this sentence, said Rosenheimer.

“Like a hanging record, Söder repeats his relativization of violence against democrats along the lines of 'it's your own fault if you do politics like that'.

“That’s what sets him on fire,” says the spokesman for the Bamberg-Land Green Party in clear words.

“As a volunteer, I can say the following points: I am a volunteer on site and I don't do the politics, I trust our Prime Minister to have this political understanding.

On the other hand, there are different pairs of boots: The first boot is to do opposition work and criticize governments - that is completely legitimate and enriching for our politics.

The second boot is whether or not to condemn attacks on democratic rallies.

And if you condemn them, then, as Söder himself says, there should be no ifs or buts about it.”
