Hungarian Fund: European Parliament takes Commission to court

DECRYPTION - MEPs believe that the release of 10.2 billion euros of European funds is not justified. They see it above all as a political decision.


The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, made no comment on the subject.

And those around her were barely more forthcoming in recent days, contenting themselves with recalling that the rule is that the president of the Strasbourg institution follows the recommendations of the parliamentary committees.

At issue: the release of 10.2 billion euros in European funds to Hungary in mid-December 2023, the day before a crucial summit devoted to EU support for Ukraine.

This sum is part of the 22 billion euros in cohesion funds promised to Hungary but blocked by Brussels, due to obstacles to the rule of law observed in the country.
