For months it has been unclear what will happen next with the insolvent specialist retailer Sport-Scheck.
Now it has been announced that the Italian sports company Cisalfa is the new owner.
The collapse of René Benko's Signa empire also brought his subsidiary Sport-Scheck into the abyss.
The traditional company had to file for bankruptcy on November 30th.
With far-reaching consequences for Munich: As reported, the flagship store will be leaving its prominent location at Neuhauser Straße 21.
Until now it was unknown what would happen next with Sport-Scheck.
Now there is clarity: the Italian retailer Cisalfa Sport is buying the sports retailer out of regular insolvency.
Transaction is expected to close in June
“The transaction is expected to close by the end of June upon completion of customary conditions,” the Kearney company said in a statement.
According to a press release, the globally active strategy consultants provided both sides with supportive advice.
After Sport-Scheck went bankrupt, specialist lawyer Axel Bierbach was appointed as insolvency administrator.
With the degree he has achieved, the company founded in 1946 with its 34 branches across Germany seems to have a future.
Even before the collapse, Signa wanted to get rid of Sport-Scheck: As reported, the planned takeover by the British fashion retailer Frasers was almost dry at the end of 2023.
However, the insolvency of Signa Holding caused this deal to collapse.
Since then, many discussions have been held - including about necessary cost reductions.
However, when it came to the rent for the flagship store directly in the pedestrian zone, the property owner, Bayerische Hausbau, was unable to reach a common denominator.
At the beginning of February it was announced that the rental agreement with Sport-Scheck would be terminated.
At what point in time is an exciting question: So far, neither side has commented on this.
The only thing that is clear now is who will be the new tenant at the location in the heart of Munich: the fashion giant C&A, whose rental agreement ends at the previous location directly opposite, will be moving in there.
