Everyone who is eagerly awaiting a decision from the Freising city council regarding the pedestrian zone will have to be patient.

The issue was referred back to the relevant committee.

Freising

- “You have to take the needs of those affected into account in order to secure their future.” This is one of the reasons why the SPD parliamentary group in the Freising city council called for the matter to be referred back to the planning committee with its order of procedure.

A decision should actually have been made on Wednesday: Large pedestrian zone, yes or no?

But it turned out quite differently.

Before the city council takes its final vote on the issue of “city center traffic management,” “an appropriate participation process should be carried out,” believes the SPD.

“The knowledge gained should then flow into the decision-making and implementation processes,” said SPD city councilor Teresa Degelmann, explaining the intention of the application.

And although it was a point of order that does not allow debate, only a counter-speech, Susanne Günther (Greens) spoke up - “not with a counter-speech, but with an expansion of the point of order,” as she said.

Her group voted to refer it back to committee “provided there is broad public participation.”

It is important to come to a decision quickly.

And: “We have created a space that should be attractive and safe for pedestrians, and we are sticking to that.”

Robert Weller (FW) suggested setting up a round table on the topic.

“The planning committee doesn't have the time that this requires.” But that wasn't a counter-argument either, as mayor Tobias Eschenbacher noted.

This came from Nicolas-Pano Graßy: The SPD's request was honorable: "I will still reject it." Yes, the public should have been better taken along.

“There is a need for improvement in communication,” said Graßy.

Nevertheless, all arguments for and against are on the table - and have been for years.

There are solutions for all problems: “I would have liked to have just dealt with the issue in the last two years,” he said – and received applause from his party colleague Guido Hoyer and the ÖDP city councilors.

The motion for rules of procedure was approved with six votes against, and the pedestrian zone issue goes back to the planning committee.

In the end, there was still the question of the council's request on the topic.

Because that was also on the agenda on Wednesday.

FSM city councilor Reinhard Fiedler said: “We are of course withdrawing the application and waiting for the result in the planning committee.”
