Itzehoe - A 55-year-old man has to go to prison for murdering his wife in front of his 13-year-old son in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein.
The Itzehoe regional court sentenced the Azerbaijani from Chemnitz to life imprisonment on Thursday for murder and rape.
The chamber followed the public prosecutor's request and also noted the particular gravity of the guilt.
The defense, however, wanted the fatal shot on October 31, 2022 to be viewed as a negligent killing of the 37-year-old because it was accidentally fired, and had pleaded for a prison sentence of four years and eight months in connection with the rape.
The woman was walking with her 13-year-old son on a footpath in Heide when her husband, who lives in Chemnitz, got out of a car.
As a result, a shot was fired from close range, fatally hitting the woman.
The 37-year-old had previously fled with the boy from their shared apartment to a women's shelter in Heide.
The Azerbaijani had raped his wife in Chemnitz, as he admitted during the trial.
After the shot in Heide, the defendant had an acquaintance drive him to the police and turned himself in.
