A witness recently came forward, a former friend and companion, who is said to be responsible for the fact that Christian B. is behind bars.

Criminal trial against Maddie's main suspect started in Braunschweig

The convicted sex offender Christian B. is currently having to answer before the Braunschweig regional court.

The 47-year-old is said to have raped women and abused girls.

He is accused of five sexual offenses.

The defendant is said to have committed the crimes in Portugal between the end of December 2000 and June 2017.

The mother of Maddie's main suspect, Christian B., is said to have banned her son from her life. 

“According to the files, the defendant must expect a prison sentence of up to 15 years,” said senior public prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters to the

In the Maddie McCann case, Christian B. has been suspected of murder since 2020, but no charges have been brought against him yet.

In May 2023, a search operation in Portugal again drew attention to the missing person case of Maddie McCann.

Investigators searched for evidence at a reservoir for three days.

Apparently photos triggered the operation.

Maddie's body has not been found.

However, the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office and the Federal Criminal Police Office are continuing to investigate him on suspicion of murder.
