– Athena has been sitting in a well in Dornach for over 2000 years, waiting for someone to take her out.

“How can you forget a beauty like me?” laments the bronze statue in the audio that the audience can listen to at the cultural awards ceremony in Haar.

But then: “What are those scraping noises?” In 1994, rescue was near by the archaeologist Hans-Peter Volpert.

Today the Athene of Dornach has a home in the AschheiMuseum.

In the audio, Petra Breuer interviews the scientist.

The woman from Aschheim received the Munich District Culture Prize at the ceremony.

The two cultural support awards go to the artist Veronika Schattenmann from Riemerling and to the family trio Demmel from Aying.

In his greeting, District Administrator Göbel appealed not to capitulate, especially in times of crisis.

“People must not withdraw into everyday life and lose their humanity,” he says.

“We need citizens to preserve our cultural wealth.

Just like our award winners.”

Involved in cultural mediation

The listening trails are just one of Petra Breuer's many projects.

The author and local carer has been involved in cultural mediation for years, especially for children and young people.

Through local chronicles, student tours, writing workshops and VHS lectures, it not only conveys local history, but also encourages children and adults to write and read.

“Petra Breuer inspires the imagination with her works and provides insights into the history of the region,” says district home administrator Astrid Pellengahr in her laudatory speech.

“She creates a key to the past.” The turning point in her life was training to become a city guide.

Since then, she has wanted to introduce the little ones to regional history.

“But I also had a lot of fun looking for clues in Aschheim and Dornach with little Wiggerl.” Anyone who is still looking for a herb recipe will find it in the history of Ismaning.

Along the way, the reader learns what the water tower is all about.

“Breuer’s works are the perfect learning material for elementary school teachers or parents who take their children to the museum.”

Name known beyond regional borders

Moderator Stefan Semhoff witnessed the Demmel family three-piece live on the “BR Heimat” program four weeks ago.

“They have made a name for themselves beyond regional borders,” he says.

“They are now on a par with popular trios.” The family Dreiigesang has been active in the field of folk music for ten years.

Together with their father Max, the two siblings Katharina and Maxi shape an Alpine folk music style.

Since 2019 they have received some of the most prestigious folk music awards.

Now follows the district's cultural funding award.

“The band of musicians is on the right track,” said Semhoff.

They would always face new challenges.

“Folk music is on everyone's lips, but we shouldn't be fooled.

Nothing is fixed.” You can’t make money with amateur music.

This makes it all the more important to get people excited about local music.

“The Demmels manage to do this with charm in the simplest form.

From waltz to polka.”

Paintings exhibited throughout Germany

The second cultural funding award goes to Veronika Schattenmann from Riemerling.

She has been working as an artist for decades.

Her paintings have been exhibited all over Germany.

But that's not all. "It conveys art and creates community," says Rudolf Neumaier, managing director of the State Association for Homeland Care.

As a lecturer at adult education centers and in projects with children, she awakens interest in one's own creativity.

With the “School of Imagination”, the art teacher managed to get people excited about art.

“Without pressure to perform, she gives children joy in their own actions,” says Neumaier.

“Imagination must not be allowed to run dry.” Today’s schools can learn a lot from Schattenmann.

“Maybe full-day care would be something for them.”
