The Feldafing water rescue group has taken stock for 2023.

The volunteers worked significantly more waking hours at Lake Starnberg.

Feldafing

– The Feldafing water rescue service has had a busy year.

At the annual meeting, chairman Christian Stölting said it was very pleasing that there was a new youth group for nine to eleven year olds.

Despite relatively few missions, the Feldafingen volunteers performed significantly more service and guard hours than in previous years.

In 2023 there were 3,129 working and waking hours, almost 17 percent more than in the pre-Corona year 2019, reported Stölting.

“These hours were primarily provided by 17 active helpers.” The number of deployments reached 54, the highest level since 2018. For comparison: “In 2021 there were 35, and in 2022 there were 53,” said Stölting.

On the other hand, volunteers had to go out significantly less to medical emergencies (six in 2023), property rescues (seven) and missing person searches (six) than in the previous year.

With only nine deployments by the rapid deployment group (SEG), the local group was also below the average of previous years, the water rescue service reports.

“The qualification density of active members could be further increased,” reported the chairman.

Of the 17-person core team, 15 are water rescuers, two lifeguards in the water rescue service, seven boat captains, nine watch chiefs and four SEG leaders.

There are also two lifeguard instructors, one water rescue instructor, two swimming instructors, one first aid instructor and one swimming and lifesaving training assistant.

Foundation laid for youth group

Stölting rated the membership development as “pleasantly positive”.

In the past year and a half, five adult helpers have joined the water rescue service, who were quickly trained as lifeguards and water rescuers and who were immediately available as highly motivated emergency services.

“In addition, in 2023 we were also able to lay the foundation for a new youth group aged nine to eleven,” said Stölting.

“This is also because we are present in the Feldafing community and its primary schools and kindergartens throughout the year and actively work with the children, teachers and parents.”

The new members Katharina Eckert and Daniela Löwe as well as three other new members who were not there that evening received the German rescue swimming badge silver and the snorkeling badge after completing their achievements.

The helpers with the most hours of service and wakefulness in 2023 were then honored.

The first three places went to Jonas Kessler (288 hours), Marco Iblher Ritter von Greiffen (206 hours) as well as Jens Kammermeier (202 hours) and Florian Hönicke (201 hours).

The board then presented the time awards.

In their absence, Janina Maas, Julian Graßmann and Maja Strzelecki received the water rescue service's award clasp for five years.

For his 20 years of membership in the water rescue service, Patrick Neumann received the water rescue service's award clasp for 20 years.
