These Dancing Queen evenings could be continued thanks to the second session which could see the light of day next fall. And if the Rémoise is looking forward to seeing more women behind the decks in bars or after concerts, she also sees further with a 100% female line up.

The observation made by the Reims cultural cooperative Jazzus is clear: there are few female DJs. They have until April 22

“There are almost no or few female amateur or professional DJs.

There is no problem of legitimacy but how can we ensure that there are more of them?

», asks Jean Delestrade, head of the Jazzus cultural cooperative based in Reims.

With his colleagues, he imagined the “Dancing Queen” device.

In Reims, like Nantes, Dijon or Marseille, music players intend to remedy the lack of visibility of women in the nightlife world.

The objective is to offer six women the opportunity to become DJs through a call for applications until April 22.

For those selected: a masterclass is on the program to review the basics of technique, around software and turntables.

On June 1st, the first session of “Dancing Queen” will take place.

DJ Fanny aka Mikelyne and Stan Sheraf aka Bruit Fantôme will coach the first recruits.

Each of the two speakers will provide valuable advice to our DJs of tomorrow.

“The technical aspect can restrain some, for others it is a concern for legitimacy.

Myself, when I started in 2016, it was complicated to find a place in this very masculine world.

I experienced a lot of sexist comments,” Fanny confides bluntly.

“The idea is to give them confidence”

So it was without hesitation that she agreed to become a speaker to try to offer women other avenues of entry.

“The idea is to give them confidence, to explain to them how to build a set, how to adapt to your audience and know how to sequence pieces and styles,” explains Fanny aka Mikelyne on stage.

And if the Rémoise is looking forward to seeing more women behind the decks in bars or after concerts, she also sees further with a 100% female line-up.

“The idea of setting up a female DJ collective is gaining ground,” she rejoices.

In the meantime, the Rémoise will accompany the next Jazzus recruits until their first scenes.

Masterclass participants will be invited to perform three times at the end of their training on several partner stages.

These Dancing Queen evenings could be continued thanks to the second session which could see the light of day next fall.
