Thursday, on TF1, Patrice Vergriete invited Parisians to anticipate their travels during the Olympic and Paralympic period, in particular

“Maybe it’s time to get your bike out!”

» Patrice Vergriete's advice is not ironic.

Thursday, on TF1, the Minister responsible for Transport spoke to both reassure Parisians of the transport offer which will be chartered during the Olympic and Paralympic Games... And to invite them to change their habits on time of the competition.

“If we have planned the infrastructure, we must adapt behaviors.

There will be more than 500,000 additional travelers and therefore a certain number of lines will be saturated at certain times,” the minister indicated.

The emphasis is particularly placed on Friday July 26, the day of the opening ceremony, the nerve center of the Olympic period which, the minister warns, will “complicate travel” due to the location of the show on the Seine.

“The security plan for the opening ceremony will be prepared at least a week in advance.

From July 15, I advise you to absolutely look at the site (Editor's note, Île-de-France Mobilités) to be able to get around.

We really have to anticipate from July 15.

We will already have traffic restrictions in certain places,” he warns.

To better anticipate their travels, residents of the capital are invited as much as tourists to use the Île-de-France Mobilités site which will offer less direct routes on the official Transports publics Paris 2024 application to avoid saturation of the Parisian network.

“We created this site to be able to anticipate your movements,” explains Patrice Vergriete.

“There will be very few stations closed for the duration of the Games,” promises the minister.

It is especially the opening ceremony which will impact traffic, in particular with the closure of a certain number of bridges and metro and RER stations.

There will be assembly and dismantling but without necessarily a security plan so it will be less impactful.

Furthermore, several Parisian stations do not yet offer arrivals for the opening ceremony.

“The Paris police headquarters has not yet completely completed its plan to secure the opening ceremony, we will know at the beginning of April and therefore from mid-April, we will have access to tickets for these three Parisian stations close to the Seine,” confides the minister.

As for the Paralympic Games, from August 28 to September 8, “there will be a certain number of restrictions.

But certain events have been adapted to the start of the school year, such as cycling, the route of which has been restricted,” concluded the Minister of Transport.
