During Ramadan, devout Muslims fast for 30 days.
But what happens if the fast is broken without a good reason?
Frankfurt – Ramadan runs from March 10th to April 9th, 2024.
This is followed by the sugar festival, also known as breaking the fast.
If the fast is broken beforehand, donations may be due
Ramadan 2024: Breaking the fast can have consequences
According to estimates, almost 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide will celebrate Ramadan this year.
During the 30 days, healthy and adult Muslims - according to strict beliefs - are not allowed to eat or drink anything, including water, from dawn to sunset.
Children should be introduced to this tradition slowly.
Sick, nursing mothers, pregnant women and the elderly usually do not fast because going without food would be too unhealthy.
If healthy adults break their fast early, donations may be due.
Since fasting in Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, breaking the fast without justification is considered a sin in strict religious circles.

Ancient people were even of the opinion that breaking the fast represented disbelief and meant leaving Islam.
The Islamic scholar Adh-Dhahabi (died 1348) wrote in his work Al-Kaba'r (The Great Sins): “It has become established among the believers that whoever refrains from fasting in Ramadan without being sick or having one Having reason to excuse is worse than the adulterer and alcoholic.
They even doubt his Islam and believe that he is a heretic or heretic.” This strict interpretation is hardly practiced today.
Donations, however, are common in modern faith.
Ramadan 2024: Donations after breaking the fast – what are Fidya and Kaffara?
The donations due are referred to as either Fidya (or Fidyah) and Kaffara (or Kaffarah).
Specifically, these are donations of food or money, which are usually used to support those in need.
“If you break your fast without a good reason or do not fast at all even though you are physically able to do so, the first and most important step is to show sincere remorse to Allah and resolve never to repeat it again.
Because he is the one who forgives people’s mistakes,” writes

Opinions are divided as to when Kaffara (atonement) needs to be made.
Some state that Kaffara must be paid for every single non-fasting day during Ramadan.
As
islamicreflief.de
writes, a two-month fast must then follow.
Anyone who doesn't comply with this should pay 720 euros to donate food to 60 people in need.
Others, however, say that a Tauba after breaking the fast is sufficient.
This means repentance and wanting to undo the sin.
To do this, believing Muslims must refrain from sinning, repent of it and not commit it again.
A fidya (compensatory service), on the other hand, should be provided by people who cannot fast due to a chronic illness or age.
The Fidya is also intended to support people in need, which is why it is usually made as a monetary donation.
