Couldn't more be possible than just a functional indoor swimming pool?

With one dissenting vote, the Rottach-Egern local council decided that the valley-wide working group should examine this.

Rottach-Egern – Mayor Christian Köck (CSU) made it clear at the end of the detailed debate: “A wellness pool is not a priority”.

And yet: In the local council's opinion, a minimal solution with just five lanes, a teaching swimming pool, a water play area and a diving board for 21 million euros (Rottach-Egern share: 4.2 million) cannot be the right solution.

Municipal indoor swimming pool: Third mayor formulates further key points for the working group

Third Mayor Gabriele Schultes-Jaskolla (FWG) formulated three key points with which the working group's scope of tasks should be expanded: Firstly, the previous figures and results should be verified and deepened and a final recommendation should be made for the type of ownership and operating company.

Secondly, it should be examined what other offers are possible in the former swimming pool area and what financial consequences this would entail.

Thirdly, it must be clarified what happens if one or two communities withdraw from the valley-wide project.

“We have to come to terms with it,” she repeated City Hall boss Köck’s demand.

In order to meet a deadline set by the end of July, the working group would have to meet every two weeks.

CSU spokeswoman Alexandra Wurmser, who like Schultes-Jaskolla is a member of the working group, called for a representative from the tourism industry to be included, possibly also the planner of the Atoll water park on Lake Achensee.

Indoor swimming pool project: Three pillars desired

Sebastian Kölbl (CSU) recommended involving the operations manager of the lake and warm pool and demanded that the investments necessary here should not be ignored.

The suggestion from Anastasia Stadler (CSU) was later incorporated into the decision: E-Werk should be brought on board as a regional energy supplier for an innovative energy system.

Stadler called for a three-pillar pool with fun, wellness and swimming, “this is a matter close to my heart.”

At the council table it became clear that a purely functional bathroom could not be the solution.

“If nothing is offered, no people will go in,” predicted Anton Maier (CSU).

Stefan Niedermaier (Blitz) was even convinced that a pure swimming pool would cause more deficit than a version with a sauna.

“The desire for something more is there everywhere,” said Thomas Tomaschek (Greens), expressing his feelings.

“We need a medium-sized offer for everyone, including tourists who don’t live in five-star hotels.” With regard to possible sponsors, Tomaschek found: “There is a lot of swimming at Tegernsee, and above all, many swim in money.”

Speaking of money: Köck was able to present figures from the atoll to the meeting: According to this, the construction of the Tyrolean pool cost 21 million euros, 23 million with the outdoor area.

The deficit is around 300,000 euros annually.

For Köck it was clear: “Less investment costs create more scope for fundamental equipment.”

In the end, the suggestions mentioned were incorporated into the resolution, in which swimming pool expert Klaus Batz was also given the task of giving priority to children and young people in the planning.

Michael Mayr (Greens) was the only one who voted against further action.

He sees the issue of indoor swimming pools in a larger context and would like to see a swimming pool built centrally in the district, with shorter distances and lower costs for everyone involved.
