The doors of five Italian nuclear plants, currently in decommissioning, are opened to over 3,330 citizens.
Registrations starting today and until April 22nd online only on the website www.sogin.it for the fourth edition of "Open Gate", the initiative with which the Sogin Group, on the weekend of May 11th and 12th, will allow visitors to visit them four power plants in Trino (Vercelli), Caorso (Piacenza), Latina and Garigliano (Caserta) and for the first time the Itrec plant in Rotondella (Matera).
Sogin, which is the state company that deals with the dismantling of former nuclear power plants and waste disposal, recalls that during the exercise Trino achieved the world record for operation at full power, Caorso (Piacenza) is the largest in our The country, Latina, at the time of its start-up was the most powerful power plant in Europe and Garigliano (Caserta), with the characteristic "white sphere" which encloses the reactor.
The Itrec plant in Rotondella (Matera) was the main nuclear research plant in the South.
Two visit routes are planned, "controlled area" and "industrial area", for the power plants of Trino, Caorso, Garigliano and for the Itrec plant in Rotondella, while only one route is planned for Latina, "industrial area".
Minors aged six and over can also enter the "industrial area" if accompanied.
In the tours, which last approximately two hours, Sogin technicians will take you through the places that represent a piece of our country's industrial history and will talk about the work they do every day, in compliance with maximum safety criteria, to complete the dismantling of nuclear plants and manage waste radioactive substances, from their storage in temporary repositories to their definitive placement in the National Repository.
