Highlights: Spotify beyond audio, music videos arrive in Italy. Music videos can also be viewed in full screen by selecting panorama mode on your device. The service hosts the clips directly, broadcasting them without advertising, as it does with the songs listened to by Spotify Premium subscribers. In the past, the company has made available Clips, with which singers and bands can communicate something to fans, and Canvas, an 8-second looping image that creators use to fill listeners' screens, in the absence of real video clips.

With a view to further differentiating its service, Spotify has announced the launch, also in Italy, of a feature dedicated to music videos.

Available to Premium subscribers, this is currently an experimental section, which includes a limited catalog of music videos, including Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat and Ice Spice.

The function is supported on all the main platforms where Spotify is present: iOS, Android, computers and smart TVs, by selecting the "Switch to video" option which will only be visible for supported songs.

At this point, the videos will play in the "Now Playing" section.

If you want to go back to listening to audio only, you will have to click on "Switch to audio".

Music videos can also be viewed in full screen by selecting panorama mode on your device.

“In our initial beta distribution, we are starting with a limited subset of the entire catalog, which includes thousands of music videos. Within this subset, we are prioritizing a broad range of popular genres and artists in launch markets,” said Sten Garmark, global vice president of Spotify, in an interview with Techcrunch.

For this novelty, Spotify is not limited to embedding a YouTube video or collaborating with a third-party company.

The service hosts the clips directly, broadcasting them without advertising, as it does with the songs listened to by Spotify Premium subscribers.

With music videos, Spotify adds another way for artists to interact with their audiences.

In the past, the company has made available Clips, with which singers and bands can communicate something to fans, and Canvas, an 8-second looping image that creators use to fill listeners' screens, in the absence of real own video clips.
