That went smoothly.

Just a few weeks after the plans to sell the Hotel Terofal became known, the new owners were announced: Ute and Markus Leitner.

Schliersee – A Frenchman and then two Lower Bavarians, these were the past owners of the magnificent Hotel Terofal in the center of Schliersee.

Now it is returning to home hands.

Markus Leitner grew up in Schliersee, just a stone's throw from Terofal.

There, his family runs the small Seeheimat holiday home right on the shore with four exclusive rooms, rating on Google: 5.0 out of 5.0 points.

The former Seeheim Rauch or guest house Rauch was completely renovated just a few years ago and is now run by the Leitner family in the third generation.

This has well-known Schlierseers in its ranks: Markus Leitner's grandfather, the Lüftmaler Franz Rauch, and his father Martin Leitner.

The latter was, among other things, long-time chairman of the Schliersee Alpine Choir.

“Already hopped around the hotel as a little boy”

Markus Leitner says about the purchase: “It was a matter close to my heart.

I used to jump around the hotel when I was a little boy.” They reached an agreement relatively quickly with the previous owner, Christian Freund.

The Landshuter kept his word and ensured a seamless transition.

The Leitners take over the entire staff, around a dozen permanent employees as well as a number of mini-jobbers, but above all Birgit Eham as managing director.

“We will actively support and relieve them,” says Leitner.

But this is more from the background.

“Neither of us are hoteliers.”

Operations continue as usual - Birgit Eham is staying

But what is already underway is the search for additional staff.

At the moment, the inn can only offer a “small menu” due to a lack of employees.

That should change again, otherwise operations will continue as usual.

Despite the change of ownership, continuity is maintained.

Eham has been running the house since 2017.

The seamless transition is also important to Schliersee's mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer, who is pleased that Leitner is a buyer who “knows and loves the house”.

A vacancy or a longer break would have been bad, according to the town hall boss.

The Leitners want to carefully adapt the hotel to modern holidaymakers' needs

Ute and Markus Leitner want to carefully bring the 500-year-old building into shape.

An energy renovation is necessary, “and the roof is also getting old,” says Leitner.

“We want to adapt the hotel to the increased needs of holidaymakers.” For example, old furniture in the 20 rooms will be replaced, although the historic Terofal room will of course not be touched.

In the medium term, however, a small wellness area with a sauna, whirlpool and the like is to be created.

“There is a lot to do and we are really looking forward to our task.” It starts on May 1st.

As a real estate economist with his own company in Gmund, the 58-year-old knows what he is getting into.

Incidentally, the approximately 500 square meter property on the other side of the street played no role in the Leitners' considerations.

This was “quite suitable for a development,” the real estate advertisement said.

Leitner could currently imagine “a few parking spaces in the upper area”.

But he would have to discuss this with the community.

Strong beer tapping:

There are still tickets available for the strong beer tapping in the Bauerntheater, as host Birgit Eham reports.

These can be obtained by calling 0 80 26 / 92 92 10. Doors open on Friday, March 22nd, at 6 p.m.

This is followed by the Lenten sermon with Wolfgang Ober as Xaver Terofal and a one-act play by the Bauertheater ensemble.
