The preliminary hearing in court in Reggio Emilia for ten penitentiary police officers accused, for various reasons, of torture, injury and forgery has been postponed to 8 April.
The prisoner, victim of the beating on 3 April 2023, has filed a civil action and the request to appear (it will be discussed at the next hearing) was also made by the regional and national guarantors of the prisoners, by Antigone and by another association .
The victim's lawyer also requested that the Ministry of Justice be summoned as civilly liable.
Prosecutor Maria Rita Pantani accuses the defendants of having put on a hood with a pillowcase tied around their neck, tripped him, stripped him naked and beaten him with kicks and punches, even when he was on the ground, and trampled on the Tunisian prisoner.
In the second phase of the beating the prisoner was taken to the cell, beaten again and left naked from the waist down for over an hour, despite the fact that in the meantime he had injured himself and was bleeding.
What happened is documented by the videos of the internal prison cameras, in the investigation documents.
At the beginning of February, inspections by the National Prison Guarantor of the entire prison were announced.
The victim, currently in prison in Piacenza, was present in the courtroom, behind closed doors, as were some of the defendants.
