The Manhattan prosecutor's office said it was open to a 30-day postponement of Donald Trump's historic criminal trial scheduled to begin at the end of March in New York, in a case of concealed payments to an adult film actress, according to a court document Thursday.
The prosecution said it was
“ready for a trial on March 25”
, but
“does not oppose a postponement of up to 30 days to allow the defense to examine”
new documents submitted to the proceedings, indicates the prosecution led by Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg.
This development comes as Donald Trump's lawyers also asked to postpone this trial in order to await a decision from the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington on his presidential immunity.
34 accounting frauds punishable by four years in prison
The Republican candidate for the US presidential election in November is due to appear in criminal court in New York on March 25 in connection with payments to a former pornographic film star, Stormy Daniels.
Prosecutor Bragg is prosecuting him for 34 accounting frauds punishable by four years in prison if the former tenant of the White House is found guilty.
Donald Trump, who pleads not guilty, is accused of having disguised the accounts of his real estate empire Trump Organization to conceal $130,000 paid to Stormy Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, just before the November 2016 presidential election.
According to the prosecution, she had to keep silent about an alleged sexual relationship in 2006, when he was already married to Melania Trump.
Mr. Trump denies any relationship with the former actress.
